Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.
Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock choice given he was released by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
