Officials indicated that Washington might explore allowing European allies to purchase alternative high-distance arms for supply to Kyiv, but the Tomahawk system were unlikely. One representative questioned the workability of providing cruise missiles with a range of 2,500km, proposing alternatives with lesser range instead.

The defendant, 38 former lawmaker in the capital's council, informed a Moscow court from a secure enclosure that the allegation against him was "absurd" and that he presented no threat to society. His legal representative said that her defendant had been indicted over a couple of messages on Telegram in 2022 and that he had been intensively questioned in the middle of the night and had his residence inspected.

Ukraine Power Recovery Efforts Underway

Emergency crews were slowly reinstating electrical supply to areas of the country's north cut off from the grid by Russian attacks, the Ukrainian prime minister said late on Thursday. Electricity had been completely reestablished in multiple zones of the northeastern Sumy oblast hit by nocturnal assaults, the official reported on social media. Restoration work were also advancing in the adjacent Chernihiv area, where more than 300,000 consumers had been left without power.

Russia and Ukraine Exchange Captured Soldiers

The two nations swapped hundreds of prisoners of war on Thursday. The Ukrainian president said that 185 service members – the majority had been in Russian captivity – and 20 non-combatants were repatriated. Moscow's military department said that 185 of its soldiers and 20 citizens returned. From the start of the conflict, over 7,000 individuals had returned, the president noted on the platform.
