The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
