People have come together across the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-conducted assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled formal memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but events still took place throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected across the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of indirect talks to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A prominent representative knowledgeable about the talks said that an evening round of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the day's discussions finished without concrete outcomes, amid disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume hostilities after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the talks are "tough and have yet to produce any significant progress," but noted that mediators are striving to narrow the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • After-conflict governance of the territory

Public Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square that day, young Hagar - whose brother lived through the attack on the gathering, where hundreds were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No location feels like home now and until all the hostages return none of us will feel safe."

"After we see all home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can commence heal," she continued.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to demonstrate their backing for the families of the captives. Israel says nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.

Protester one woman explained: "We need do any agreement necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be protected."

Surveys now consistently show that approximately seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to end in exchange for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of the gathering, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the dawn of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr areas and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwest.

"Once the night falls, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike last year, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, clinging, notably my little child who puts his face on me all night."

"Continuously we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the conflict will come back to us."

Health Situation

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had taken in the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of the city reported additional dead people had been brought there. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for help to the southern area, medics reported.

The territory's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
